KOTARO NUKAGA is pleased to feature works by four artists, Brian Alfred, Stefan Brüggemann, Tony Matelli, and Tomokazu Matsuyama, starting this Saturday, January 25th.
Stefan Brüggemann, working between London and Mexico City, utilizes images similar to texts and marks to question their purpose and to critique society. Brian Alfred and Tomokazu Matsuyama, artists based in New York, render state of a society complexified by a vast amount of information and elements of urban culture; they take completely different approaches within this theme. Both of their works are cutout images of our daily life, reflecting intense characteristics of modernness. Sculptural work by Tony Matelli, who is also based in New York, project cynicism towards viewers, destabilizing the relationship between the sense of sights and logic. He alludes the vanity of human life, yet enriches us with abundance of humor, evoking ambivalence.
